Arrr Matey!

I swear - kids are so darn creative. To preface this post, I don't think we have ever seen a pirate movie in our house - except of course Peter Pan - which would count if Captain Hook ever said "Arrr Matey" during the movie. (Maybe he does - then this whole thing would make more sense to me :)) Anyway, one day, Aidan puts on his winter hat, covers one eye with the hat and starts pretending to use his hand as a sword, yelling "Arrr Matey" and - although I honestly have no idea what he was really doing, I can guess he was pretending to defend something. The pictures and the videos capture how cute he was much better then I will ever do in words. :) What a cute boy!!

Oh, the funny things they say!

Mylie: What a heck? What a heck? Me: What's wrong? Mylie: I'm talking about the trees that are trying to fall over! This was after a major snow and ice storm that knocked a bunch of branches off the trees. I love the "What a heck?" line! (1/12)

Mylie: Dude! Me: Dude? Mylie: I'm talking to the slow car in front of us! haha! Guess I voice my frustrations with slow drivers out loud! :) (1/12)

Mylie: When I grow up I am going to be a nurse and a princess. Me: You already are a princess. Mylie: No - a REAL princess - and I am going to need a fancy dress! Glad she's going to be a working princess so she can stay in touch with us commoners. :) (1/12)

I guess Aidan is feeling thankful these days also. He just said, "mom, my life has been good so far and I don't expect that to change anytime soon!" Just as I was feeling like a great parent, he informed me, "that's because I have video games in my life." **Sigh** Well, at least he is feeling grateful for something. :) (11/11)

Today's Aidanism: "Mom, I like all boys, but I only like the girls that are cute - like you, Katie and Mylie." I'm not sure if I should be shocked because he is already talking about the cute girls, or grateful because he is counting me as one of them! LOL! (10/10)

Aidan always knows how to make a girl feel special! :) Tonight as I was putting him to bed he said this little doozey: "When I get older I will be a dad and you will die." Umm, ok - thanks Aidan! :) (7/10)

Eric cut his finger today and I had to get a bandaid out of the firstaid kit in the car. Katie was telling Aidan showing Aidan what I was doing and said, "See Aidan, mommy has a daycare in the car and she has lots of bandaids in there." Obviously she has never been to a daycare, because she thought that was the name for a first aid kit. Too cute! (4/10)

Aidan likes to talk about dying these days. How old we will be, etc. The other day I was telling him that when we die we will all live together as a family with Heavenly Father. To that he responded, "When we die we will all live with Heavenly Father and we will all hold hands around the earth." Cute! (2/10)

Aidanism follow up: "Mom, aren't you glad that you and me bought our house together?" My response was, "Yes, I am glad, and we bought it with daddy too right?" to which he responded, "no, we just let him live with us." (9/09)

Aidanism: "Mom, aren't you glad that we had $3 so that we could buy this house?" When I said yes he continued, "Because this is the only house that had 'this' (Mylie's) kind of crib, right?" Oh the innocence of a 3 year old! (9/09)

Katie told her friends today (who were coloring on some paper with their popsicles) not to waste paper because if we waste paper, then they have to cut down more trees, and trees make air. She then informed them that the firemen had to come and help her because she couldn't breathe because there wasn't any air (she was actually just sick and her throat was swelling shut). At least I know she sometimes listens when I talk - even when she puts her own spin on it! :) (9/09)
Katie said to Eric tonight, "I like having you for a dad because you are smart!" and then turned to me and said "and you for a mom because you make us food." (8/09)

The other day Katie and Aidan told me that they wanted me to have another baby - and they wanted it to be a baby boy. When I reminded Katie that we don't get to choose if we have a boy or a girl, that Heavenly Father is the one who chooses, I asked her what would happen if we had another baby girl. Very matter of fact - like I was the clueless one - Katie said, "then we have a baby girl!" Duh! (7/09)

While watching "Ice Age 2", where the mom is getting ready to have a baby, Aidan told me that he wanted us to have another baby boy. When I told him that we weren't going to have anymore babies, he exclaimed, very exasperated, "Well, then can someone else please have two?!" Hmmmm...... (7/09)

While playing baseball with Eric, Aidan exclaimed, "Dad, I hit a dingle!" It took a few tries before we realized he was saying that he hit a single. :) (4/09)

After a playdate with his friend Jack, Aidan exclaimed, "mom, Jack and Brendan are my best friends, because I know they love me." So cute!! (3/09)

After I visited the dentist, Aidan asked me how my appointment with the Tooth Fairy went. I told him that I visited the dentist, not the Tooth Fairy to which he explained, "Oh, I call the dentist the Tooth Fairy." Hmmm - well, I guess they both take your teeth. :) (1/09)

While getting a cavity filled at the dentist, the dentist explained to Katie that the instruments they were using that vibrated her teeth were shaking all the sugar bugs out of her teeth. The other day, Katie told me that a sugar bug came out of her tooth and she bit it. Yikes! (1/09)

Katie told me the other day that her favorite favorite day EVER was the day that Mylie was born. So cute!! (12/08)

Katie and I were discussing daddy's work - where he goes, why he works, etc. I asked Katie if she thought mommy worked. "No" she stated. When I told her that yes, mommy does work, she quickly said, "Oh yes, you work on your email." Hmmm - maybe I do spend too much time on the computer. (12/08)

While not feeling good, Katie told me, "Mom, I'm not feeling good. I just coughed and lost my voice, but then I found it again!" (11/08)

While Aidan was throwing the baseball up in the air and catching it he exclaimed, "me practicing throwing the ball up and catching it!" In an attempt to correct his grammar I said, "Say 'I'm practicing throwing the ball up and catching it.'" To this, Aidan exclaimed, "Mom! No you're not, me am! You are teasing." Instead of understanding that I was trying to get him to say "I" instead of "me", he thought I was saying that I was the one throwing the ball. It doesn't sound half as cute in writing - but we had a good laugh! (11/08)

Just now, as I was reading my morning email and news, Katie has been bugging me to get up and go play with her. When I told her to wait just a minute until I was finished, she asked, "well, can you just hurry it up a little bit please?" (10/08)

Today when we were driving, the family was singing a primary song called "I am a child of God" and the first words of the song are the same as the title. After we all started singing the song and got through the first line, Aidan yelled out, "Mommy, Me a Child of God!" Just his simple joy made us all smile! (10/08)

Aidan has a funny twist on the typical two year old "why" question. Instead of asking me "why" about everything ~ like many his age, Aidan asks and answers the question himself. For example, he might say to me, "Mommy, me want to play outside. Why? Because me want to." At least I don't have to answer the age old "why" question for him! :) (9/08)

Aidan is so loving! He just comes up to me and puts his head on my lap and says, "Me love you so much!" How can you beat that! (9/08)

A great self esteem day for me: Katie asked me when I was going to be "straight" like daddy. When I asked her what she meant, she used her hands to make straight lines down each side of her body and said "you know, straight" - that's when I realized she meant straight as in not curvy - ie: skinny. :) (8/08)

When Aidan was learning how to sing "B-I-N-G-O" he would sing "B-I-Auntie Jo" I'm still laughing at that one! (8/08)

Katie "listening" on one of our old phones that doesn't work anymore said, "I'm listening to my email. It was hard to hear so I had to listen carefully." (7/08)
