Recycling

I just got seriously one-up'd by my 5 year old! Here's the story... Katie had a small paper fast food cup from our lunch today and had just finished the drink. I am going through a struggle trying to get the kids to put their things away when they are finished with them, so I reminded Katie to throw the cup away now that she was done with it. Here's how the conversation goes following my request:

Katie - "but mom, I am going to make an art project out of it"
Mom - "what are you going to make?"
K -"I am going to take this cup, put a string through it and then tie another cup to the other end so we can talk through them" (ie: telephone game, just in case my explanation is not clear)
M - "Katie, we are not going to make toys out of garbage, and besides, we only have one cup."
K - "I am going to save this until I get another cup" (side note to Aidan was to please keep a cup the next time he goes to McD's)
M - "No - we are not going to be saving garbage, and besides, I have already given you my answer and I think I was pretty clear."
K - "but mom - it is called recycling and it is the right thing to do!"

Ouch! Guess what?? She is currently making a 'telephone' out of the fast food cup. :) (I actually remembered that we had an extra cup, hence the completed project.)
